Peace Day Hawaii honored Roy and Kathy Sakuma for their spirited commitment to peace education as music teachers and community peace builders. In 2007 Hawaii became the first state to officially recognize the United Nations International Day of Peace, now celebrated in more than 200 countries worldwide. Peace Day Hawaii is observed on September 21 of each year promoting peace programs, improving international relations, and increasing educational awareness of peace.
