Roy
and Kathy Sakuma started their record label in 1987,
bringing the beauty and versatility of the ukulele
to a much wider audience.
Their first project, Ohta-San, received the Na
Hoku Hanohano award for Instrumental of the Year. Since
then, Roy Sakuma Productions has won several more Hoku
awards for recording projects.
Today the Roy Sakuma Productions label is home to
an eclectic, refreshing collection of musical styles.
Artists range from the energetic island contemporary
and traditional sounds of Ka'au
Crater Boys, and Palolo,
to the expressive musical creations of Ohta-San and
the rich, soft jazz harmonies of Lyle
Ritz. You'll
also discover Hawaii's finest jazz drummer, Noel
Okimoto,
the youthful exuberance of Joy, the slack-key
ukulele solos of Daniel
Ho and the next generation
of Hawaiian music represented by Keoki
Kahumoku on
slack-key guitar, Herb
Ohta, Jr. on ukulele, and the
vocal harmonies of Holunape - connecting
us to the heart and soul of Hawaii's music. |
